Havanese / Mini Poodle / Yorkshire Terrier
A little about the “HavaPooKie” Breed

This is a mix breed that is uniquely developed here at Sunny Day Puppies. As with my “Sunshine” puppies, the particular combination of these 3 breeds was very carefully chosen after all my years of learning & experience both with dogs & people. I just can’t say enough about these 3 breeds but I will try to do my best for you here!

As you know, all three of these breeds are TOPS in their reputations as family pets for MANY reasons. Intelligence, train-ability, enthusiasm to please their family, loving & friendly nature. Small, (but not too small) so as to make them durable enough for families with children. Then top it off and throw in the convenience of the non-shedding, hypo-allergenic traits and well, I think you can see where I’m going with this! They are really FUN little doggies!!!

Below are some examples of past HavaPooKie puppies we have had here and be sure to see many more pictures in my example of the HavaPooKie breed in my albums! HavaPooKie

Below, I am going to describe the 3 breeds that are combined into the well-loved “HavaPooKie”. This will help you to understand why they have become such a hit with families who have this special breed:

The Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkshire Terriers may be tiny but they are a big-dog in a little-dog package. The Yorkie is an intelligent and affectionate pet. They get along with everyone. Yorkshire Terriers are compact in size, sweet in nature and cheerful in character. They are good with children & other pets. Energetic & spunky, this feisty little breed has a lot of energy to use. Fortunately a small amount of room is needed for this! The ultimate lap dog, they bring laughter & companionship to any home.

Special Skills: Rat & mouse catcher – no more having to set those yucky mouse traps!
These dogs, like most smaller dogs, live a long life span of 15 years

Lively and spirited, the Yorkshire Terrier is no wimp. Although small, they are still terriers! They can be scrappy & courageous. A good watchdog, they do sound the alarm if the need be, and though small can be hardy. They are devoted & brave. (They do not know they are little! )

There is something different and quizzical about the look on a Yorkie’s face when you talk to it that can’t be compared with any other dog. The way their little ears twitch & turn with every word, and fall back when you scold them, gives a clue to the intelligence of this little guy. Yorkies have a way of crouching down on their front paws while keeping their hind end up in the air that makes me laugh each and every time I see it! Wonderful, lovable little creatures, it is no wonder the Yorkshire Terrier is always in the top 10, usually the top 1 or 2 most popular dogs in the world!

Folks say “They are kind of like potato chips; You can’t have just one”! Keep in mind the cost of shipping for 2 puppies is not much more that the costs for shipping one!

The Mini Poodle

Identical to the Standard Poodle except in height, they are a descendants of the Standard  Poodle. The Mini, Toy, and Teacup Poodles are VERY smart, sensitive little dogs who make perfect pets for a less active person who has time to pamper these natural little clowns and be amused by their quaint antics. Well proportioned and squarely built, the Toy Poodle (6-9 lbs) was bred down from the Miniature Poodle (10-15 lbs) , and the Teacup (3-5 lbs) was bred smaller even yet. They are an intelligent breed with a good natured disposition and are very easy to train, the easiest of all the Poodles. Delightful and lively dogs, the Poodle makes an excellent family pet who will adapt to any situation and lives to please their master. Poodles are an efficient choice for the owner who wants an obedient dog. They are affectionate with their family, a little wary with strangers, but still accepting of them. They love to be around family and friends, and get along well with other animals and children. They hug better than any dog I have ever known! They come in any color, and have very curly, thick fur. Not only do they have an winning personality, but their hypoallergenic coat is non-shedding. (as are all my dog breeds) Responsive, alert, sensitive and eager to please describes this ancient breed.

The Poodle rates very high as a watch-dog. These dogs are highly alert and will let you know if something unusual is happening. Their Learning rate is also Very High. Toy Poodles are VERY intelligent, (second only to the Border Collie which is a high energy, highly shedding large dog). Obedience – Very High. Problem Solving – Very High. There are very few breeds that rate this high in everything. This is why the Poodle has been such a popular breed for so many generations! Poodles have a very long life span of 15 to 17 years.

The Havanese:

Just recently Registered by the AKC in 1995, Havanese are known as the National Dog of Cuba. They are a happy, outgoing, charming, small but sturdy dog whose temperament and trainability have made them excellent candidates for obedience training. Havanese are natural companion dogs: gentle and responsive. They become very attached to their human families and are excellent with children. Very affectionate and playful with a high degree of intelligence. These cheerful dogs are very sociable and will get along with everyone including people, dogs, cats and other pets. They live long lives, (14-15 years), and possess a kind spirit. They attach to their owners easily, making them “fantastic little friends.” They can have a little bit of a shaggy appearance, but when brushed, are soft as a down pillow. Havanese are gentle, kind little dogs that are ideal for owners who want a little buddy to follow them around.

Havanese are responsive and friendly. They are intelligent, faithful, and devoted to their families. They are natural clowns as well. Havanese are affectionate and living to please. They are attentive, quiet and gentle, but still love to play. They will play tirelessly with children. Havanese require minimal exercise, making play sessions an easy outlet for their energy.

Learning Rate – High; Obedience – High; Problem Solving – High.

The Havanese is a non-shedding, hypoallergenic double-coated breed with soft hair, both on outer and undercoat. Adult hair coat reaches 6 to 8 inches, and has a pearly sheen.

The gait is unique – lively & ‘springy” which accentuates the happy character of the Havanese. The Havanese gives a rugged impression of a little dog, sturdy, and while a small breed, it is not fragile.

Easy to obedience train, this curious dog loves to observe what is going on. The Havanese have a long reputation of being circus dogs, probably because it learns quickly and enjoys doing things for people. It is not their nature to bark a lot. Havanese are good watch dogs – making sure to alert you when a visitor arrives, but will quickly welcome the guest once it sees you welcome them. Havanese live for your every word and gesture.
