Our tiny Havashire Puppies are out of our Mama Havanese “Dance With Me” and “TinkerBelle” and our Daddy Yorkshire Terriers “Scoobee” and “Little Britches”. Their size as adults will average between their parents sizes = average 6 to 10 pounds as adults depending on the puppy that you choose from the litter and the parents sizes. I am going to describe the two breeds that are combined into the newly introduced “Havashire”. This will help you to understand why they are becoming a popular dog with dog lovers:
Just Registered by the AKC in 1995, Havanese are known as the National Dog of Cuba. They are a happy, outgoing, charming, small but sturdy dog whose temperament and trainability have made them excellent candidates for obedience training. Havanese are natural companion dogs: gentle and responsive. They become very attached to their human families and are excellent with children. Very affectionate and playful with a high degree of intelligence. These cheerful dogs are very sociable and will get along with everyone including people, dogs, cats and other pets. They live long lives, (14-15 years), and possess a kind spirit. They attach to their owners easily, making them “fantastic little friends.” They can have a little bit of a shaggy appearance, but when brushed, are soft as a down pillow. Havanese are gentle, kind little dogs that are ideal for owners who want a little buddy to follow them around.
Havanese are responsive and friendly. They are intelligent, faithful, and devoted to their families. They are natural clowns as well. Affectionate and living to please, the Havanese are attentive, quiet and gentle, but still love to play. They will play tirelessly with children. Havanese require minimal exercise, making play sessions an easy outlet for their energy.
Learning Rate – High; Obedience – High; Problem Solving – High.
The Havanese is a non-shedding, hypoallergenic double-coated breed with soft hair, both on outer and undercoat. Adult hair coat reaches 6 to 8 inches, and has a pearly sheen.
Their gait is unique – lively & ‘springy” which accentuates the happy character of the Havanese. Hence my girl’s name “Dance With Me”! The Havanese gives a rugged impression of a little dog, it is sturdy, and while a small breed, it is not fragile.
This curious dog loves to observe what is going on. The Havanese have a long reputation of being circus dogs, probably because it learns quickly and enjoys doing things for people. It is not their nature to bark a lot. Havanese are good watch dogs – making sure to alert you when a visitor arrives, but will quickly welcome the guest once it sees you welcome them. Havanese live for your every word and gesture.
Yorkshire Terriers may be tiny but they are a big-dog in a little-dog package. The Yorkie is an intelligent and affectionate pet. They get along with everyone. Yorkshire Terriers are compact in size, sweet in nature and cheerful in character. They are good with children & other pets. Energetic & spunky, this feisty little breed has a lot of energy to use. Fortunately a small amount of room is needed for this! The ultimate lap dog, they bring laughter & companionship to any home.
Special Skills: Rat & mouse catcher – no more having to set those yucky mouse traps!
These dogs, like most smaller dogs, live a long life span of 15 years
Lively and spirited, the Yorkshire Terrier is no wimp. Although small, they are still terriers! They can be scrappy & courageous. A good watchdog, they do sound the alarm if the need be, and though small can be hardy. They are devoted & brave. (They do not know they are little! )
There is something different and quizzical about the look on a Yorkie’s face when you talk to it that can’t be compared with any other dog. The way their little ears twitch & turn with every word, and fall back when you scold them, gives a clue to the intelligence of this little guy. Yorkies have a way of crouching down on their front paws while keeping their hind end up in the air that makes me laugh each and every time I see it! Wonderful, lovable little creatures, it is no wonder the Yorkshire Terrier is always in the top 10, usually the top 1 or 2 most popular dogs in the world!
Folks say “They are kind of like potato chips; You can’t have just one”! Keep in mind the cost of shipping for 2 puppies is not much more that the costs for shipping one!
