Puppy Breeds: YorkiPoo Puppies

A little about the “YorkiePoo”  (Poodle / Yorkshire Terrier)

A delightful choice for a small non-shedding & hypo-allergenic Family dog, I am going to describe the two breeds that are combined into the well-loved “YorkiPoo”. This will help you to understand why they have become such a hit with dog lovers everywhere:

The Moyen / Mini / Toy  Poodle

Identical to the Standard Poodle except in height, they may  be descendants of the Standard  Poodle. We know that the Standard (sized) Poodle developed first, and that the Miniature and Toy Poodles were developed afterwards, and all three varieties have a long history. It is not known for certain if the Miniature and Toy Poodles are “bred down” versions of the Standard, or if these smaller Poodles developed in their own right. An interesting hypothesis dealing with the history of any breed that predates written history, did the breed develop from a common ancestor, or did the breed develop because dog fanciers from different countries were trying to breed a dog for a particular purpose and function and, independently developed a breed of dog that had similar traits?

The Moyen, Mini, Toy, and Teacup Poodles are VERY smart, sensitive little dogs who make perfect pets for a less active person who has time to pamper these natural little clowns and be amused by their quaint antics. Well proportioned and squarely built, the Toy Poodle (6-9 lbs) was bred down from the Miniature Poodle (10-15 lbs) , and the Teacup (3-5 lbs) was bred smaller even yet. They are an intelligent breed with a good natured disposition and are very easy to train, the easiest of all the Poodles. Delightful and lively dogs, the Poodle makes an excellent family pet who will adapt to any situation and lives to please their master. Poodles are an efficient choice for the owner who wants an obedient dog. They are affectionate with their family, a little wary with strangers, but still accepting of them. They love to be around family and friends, and get along well with other animals and children. They hug better than any dog I have ever known! They come in any color, and have very curly, thick fur. Not only do they have an winning personality, but their hypoallergenic coat is non-shedding. (as are all my dog breeds) Responsive, alert, sensitive and eager to please describes this ancient breed.

The Poodle rates very high as a watch-dog. These dogs are highly alert and will let you know if something unusual is happening. Their Learning rate is also Very High. Toy Poodles are VERY intelligent, (second only to the Border Collie which is a high energy, highly shedding large dog). Obedience – Very High. Problem Solving – Very High. There are very few breeds that rate this high in everything. This is why the Poodle has been such a popular breed for so many generations! Poodles have a very long life span of 15 to 17 years.

The Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkshire Terriers may be tiny but they are a big-dog in a little-dog package. The Yorkie is an intelligent and affectionate pet. They get along with everyone. Yorkshire Terriers are compact in size, sweet in nature and cheerful in character. They are good with children & other pets. Energetic & spunky, this feisty little breed has a lot of energy to use. Fortunately a small amount of room is needed for this! The ultimate lap dog, they bring laughter & companionship to any home.

Special Skills: Rat & mouse catcher – no more having to set those yucky mouse traps!
These dogs, like most smaller dogs, live a long life span of 15 years

Lively and spirited, the Yorkshire Terrier is no wimp. Although small, they are still terriers! They can be scrappy & courageous. A good watchdog, they do sound the alarm if the need be, and though small can be hardy. They are devoted & brave. (They do not know they are little! )

There is something different and quizzical about the look on a Yorkie’s face when you talk to it that can’t be compared with any other dog. The way their little ears twitch & turn with every word, and fall back when you scold them, gives a clue to the intelligence of this little guy. Yorkies have a way of crouching down on their front paws while keeping their hind end up in the air that makes me laugh each and every time I see it! Wonderful, lovable little creatures, it is no wonder the Yorkshire Terrier is always in the top 10, usually the top 1 or 2 most popular dogs in the world!

Folks say “They are kind of like potato chips; You can’t have just one”! Keep in mind the cost of shipping for 2 puppies is not much more that the costs for shipping one!
